First English Edition, Very Scarce.Rebound in cloth, with original binding laid back on boards and spine. This is an important and well regarded comprehensive work on the principles of military combat and war, written by Marshal Marmont. He was awarded the title of Duke of Ragusa, but was eventually exiled to Vienna along with Charles X's entourage after being accused of betraying the Bourbons. Henry Coppee (1821-1895) was an American educator and writer. He served in the Mexican-American War as a lieutenant, and edited the United States Service Magazine during the American Civil War. United States Army stamp to front pastedown, belonging to Edgar Z. Steeves. With eight pages of publisher's adverts to rear of text. Collated, complete. Rebound in cloth with original cloth laid back on spine and boards. Externally, smart. A bit of fading to boards, with minimal wear to extremities. Age-toning to paste downs and endpapers. Prior owner's stamp to front paste down, with prior owner's pencil inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with light age-toning to margins. Very Good
