Blackmore, set during the Napoleonic Wars in Sussex. A novel set in Sussex during the Napoleonic Wars, following the tale of villain Captain Caryl Carne, half-French and half-English, as he prepares to aid a landing of the French from his castle near the coast of England. Written by R. D. Blackmore, the new and cheaper edition issued in 1889, two years following the first edition. Featuring illustrations by Alfred Parsons and F. Barnard. No half title. The present copy features the bookplate of Chesterfield House, a grand London townhouse built by Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield in the eighteenth century. In a half calf binding over marbled boards and edges. Externally sound with slight shelf wear, chipping to the head of the spine, rubbing to the spine and extremities, only a touch of scuffing. With Chesterfield House bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean throughout. Featuring illustrations in text by Alfred Parsons and F. Barnard. Good
