Rubbed joints and bumped and frayed corners. Water stain on front cover (see photo). Binding is sturdy and square. loss on foot of spine. Deckled pages, previous owner's name on front pastedown. Frontis mounted portrait. Page IX showing loss, likely from printer, at hinge, not affecting text. Light pencilled marginalia on a few pages. 4 preliminary leaves, vii-x, 105 pages, 1 leaf. 12mo, 5 1/2 x 8 inches tall. Thomas Starr King (December 17, 1824 March 4, 1864), often known as Starr King, was an American Universalist and Unitarian minister, influential in California politics during the American Civil War, and a Freemason. Starr King spoke zealously in favor of the Union and was credited by Abraham Lincoln with preventing California from becoming a separate republic.
