Sobre este artículo
San Francisco: Carleton Watkins, 1875. Number 3553 in Watkins' "New Series" of stereoviews. The image shows a view of the interior of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco: a courtyard on the ground level and 7 stories of hallways with columns and handrails; some rocking chairs can be seen around the perimeter of the courtyard. The mount is orange, with a pink verso that includes the stamp for G. Beach, the San Francisco stationer who originally sold the stereoview. Provenance: from the collection of Robert N. Dennis, who was one of the most important stereoview collectors in the U. S. The New York Public Library's "Robert N. Dennis Collection" includes more than 70,000 stereoviews from his collection, many of which can be viewed on the library's website. The Watlkins stereoview is in an envelope that Dennis used to circulate the view for critiques by fellow amateur stereo photographers, who like Dennis were members of The Stereoscopic Society. Both front and back of the envelope include their handwritten comments. The stereoview is in excellent condition: clean and bright, with perhaps a hint of fading and some faint foxing near the bottom edge of the photos.. First Edition. Very Good. Illus. by Carleton Watkins. Photo.
