Sir Alan Patrick Herbert CH (1890 â€" 1971), was an English humorist, novelist, playwright, law reformist, and in 1935â€"1950 an Independent Member of Parliament for Oxford University He was called to the Bar by Inner Temple in 1919 and entered the chambers of Leslie Scott Although he spent time at Inner Temple, he never practiced law and did not enter a legal career Over his lifetime Herbert published five collections of humorous legal case stories, entitled Misleading Cases in the Common Law, More Misleading Cases, Still More Misleading Cases, Codd's Last Case and Bardot MP?
A very good copy in blue cloth with gilt titles on spine and blindstamped titles on front cover Just very slight shelf wear Endpapers age darkened, and a small chip on the page edge of p 85 (no effect on text) but otherwise no marks or damage Unclipped DJ has small chips at jacket spine ends, but is otherwise in very good condition
The author has inscribed "To JMB from Alan Herbert" on the title page JMB was James M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan His bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown
