Hardcover Book in Very Good Condition, Jacket tattered, pieces laid in. Book is divided into three volumes. Vol I: Richard Wagner and his works; Vol II: Mozart (1756-1791) to Thomas (1811-1896)-Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Von Weber, and Thomas; Vol III: Verdi (1813-1901) to Puccini (1858-1924)-Verdi, Gounod, Bizet, Ofenbach, Humperdinck, and Puccini. The aim of this work is to tell the story of the opera accompanied by a descriptive analysis of the music, with some musical scores, and with biographical sketches of the composers. Book is clean, unmarked, with solid and tight binding, square. Red cloth with blind stamp design on front, gilt lettering and elaborate design with gilt laddering on spine. Very clean. Red and yellow headbands. Endpapers discolored along hinge--age-browning. Inner hinge cracked- can see webbing; backstrap loosened from crash. Pages are clean and completely unmarked, toned.
