A thorough description of the Belgian Congo, its political system, history, colonial government, communications, rails, roads, trade, education system, much on slavery, tribes, etc. The detailed appendices are documents, treaties, letters, reports, etc. The author was a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a New York lawyer and wrote the work to defend the current regime against opponents.
