A second inscription to the half-title. This second edition was issued the same year as the first.  The titular characters of this important work has entered into the vernacular for people with a dual nature. Stevenson was long intrigued by the idea of how human personalities can affect how to incorporate the interplay of good and evil into a story. This tale centres on Gabriel John Utterson, who investigates strange occurences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. A smart, and very bright copy of this important piece of literature.
