Browning to the textblock edges and lighter browning of the pages with some marks to the book panels. Some handling marks internally. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Matthew Davidson, with lilac and white coloured title to the front panel and backstrip. Very minor wear to the dustwrapper edges. In 1629 the Dutch ship "Batavia" was wrecked off the coast of Western Australia. When the survivors were picked up, over 120 men and women had been murdered by their fellow survivors. Two of the murderers were left on the hostile land as punishment.... "were they taken by the sea, or swallowed up by that strange and hostile land?
