Illustrated with an engraved folding aquatint frontispiece, 16 engraved aquatint plates and an engraved hand-colored map (all plates with tissue guards). Contemporary speckled calf; red lettering label, gilt; spine tooled in gilt and with gilt rules on the boards. Ribbon marker. Gilt ownership initials on the upper board (H.S. to H.S.M.) Tissue guards creased and some are soiled, else a near fine copy with beautiful plates printed in buff after Carter's own designs. With the signature of H. S. Marriott on the front pastedown.
