A. J. Downing described Loudon as 'the most distinguished gardening author of the age'. 'His Suburban Horticulturist (1842) set the standards and much of the style of the new middle-class Victorian garden' (Hugh Johnson). Catalogue of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society 191. A monumental and comprehensive work covering all aspects including tools, methods, techniques, use of insects and about any topic a gardener of the time would need. Organic gardeners of today could learn much from his suggestions. A picture of this book is available on request by email.
