Presentation from the Dowager Lady B - (illegible) to Amos Laurence (Lawrence?) tipped in at front pastedown, with Laurence's signature. Tipped in at end of text is a manuscript letter signed AL, addressed "Dear Pastor" and praising the book, and offereing to bankroll a condensed version. viii + [2] 392 pp. + [2 pp. autograph letter] + 8 pp. publisher's catalogue. 8vo., maroon cloth stamped in gilt and blind, spine sunned to light brown. Light soil to cloth. Moderate wear to spine and corners. Frontispiece engraving excellent. Interior clean and tight. Amos Lawrence (1786-1852) was a noted philanthropist and merchant of the 19th century; Lawrence, Massachusetts, is named after his son, Amos Adams Lawrence.
