Pavia: Reale Tipografia della Guerra, 1819. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. 4to (270x210 mm). [8], 60, [1] pp., 6 engraved folding plates, mild browning, foxing to plates and text pages. Contemporary half green morocco, red spine label, marbled boards (very slight wear, spine ends a little rubbed); slipcase. Good copy, complete. ---- Waller 8665, see Garrison-Morton 5738; Zeis 548; Gnudi-Webster p.320. - First Italian Edition of von Graefe's classic Rhinoplastik, the first important work after Tagliacozzi and Carpue on plastic surgery published the year before. The edition is a summary version prepared by Schönberg, the chief physician of the Austrian Army hospital in Naples. In his treatise, Schönberg uses both von Graefe's text and plates but also cites Carpue's 'Account of Two Successful Operations for Restoring a Lost Nose' (1816; Garrison-Morton 5737), together with its German translation and with preface by von Graefe. Schönberg's summary is apparently the earliest general account of modern plastic surgery in Italian. As rare as the original German edition of Rhinoplastik, only 3 copies are listed in OCLC.
