First edition, ASSOCIATION COPY, being inscribed by the artist to his two-time collaborator, Newbery Medalist Nancy Willard. Ernestine and her great-aunt Odessa often ride the trolley to the railroad station to watch the trains from North Carolina come in. But Ernestine longs to travel on a train back to her birthplace. So, everyone in her family comes together, each sacrificing something precious to them, to make her trip possible. Husband and wife team Gloria Jean and Jerry Pinkney combine their talents to depict family warmth as bright as sunshine.
