Sobre este artículo

U S A: Louisiana State University Press, 1968. Hardback. Very slight foxing to edge. Slight wear to edges of D/J. Price clipped to D/J. The author seeks to dispel the fiction that Justices operate in a vacuum, above personal and political considerations. he demonstrates how the Court is subjected to pressures from without and opposing philosophies within. The author examines the dicta of various Justices - including Holmes, Taft, Hughes, Brandeis, Frankfurter, Stone, Douglas, and Warren - against the background of the times and the various issues with which they have been concered: the judicial slaughter of legislation in the early thirties, Roosevelt's retaliatory 'court-packing attempt in 1937, judicially sanctioned federal interference in economic affairs, the bitterly contested integration decisions of 1954, and the explosive rulings of the 1960's supporting federal intervention in the fields of education, representation, and the administration of criminal justice. Professor Mason's insight into the peculiar nature of the judicial function brings a deeper understanding of the Court as a creative force in American life. 293 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic, Scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.) . Revised and Englarged Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Harback.
