London: Jonathan Cape, 1953. Cheap Edition . Hardcover. Very Good -/Very Good. 7 ½ x 5. As noted on the dust jacket flap, this is "the first and only cheap edition of an Arthur Ransome book. It will not be reprinted." The book is slightly smaller than the original edition (7 ½ x 5 inches), and has a different dust jacket (see image attached). Overall, the book is in very good condition. The interior is fresh, with no marks, signatures or damage. The edge of the text block has darkened. The green covers are only in good condition, with light edgewear and a shallow dent, possibly made during manufacturing, across the top of the front cover. The dust jacket is price-clipped, and has shallow chipping to the top and bottom of the spine. The attached scan gives a better idea of conditon. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover.
Sinopsis
Swallows and Amazons is the first book in the Swallows and Amazons series by Arthur Ransome and was first published in 1930. It is set in the Lake District between the two World Wars. At the time Ransome had been working as a journalist with the Manchester Guardian, but decided to become a full-time author rather than go abroad as a foreign correspondent. He continued to write part-time for the press.
