Algernon Charles Swinburne, a 19th century English poet, gifted with passion, enthusiasm, devotion to the literary life. He was born in London RARE. in 1837, the eldest son of Admiral C.H. Swinburne and Lady Jane Henrietta, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Ashburnham. "The ancestry of his senses as well of his blood was of the sea". Traveling internationally, he developed appreciation for poetry in other countries, more than his British peers, earning prizes and recognition for his mastery in multiple classic and modern languages. He became a poet-republican, embracing the revolutionary fervor in Europe, and patriotism at home.
