Illustrated with colour reproductions of artwork and a number of plates of New South Wales flowers. The works are done by Sophia Palmer who married into the Campbell family, and her daughter in law Marianne Collinson Close, who was born in 1827 and who after marrying Robert Campbell's son George, in about 1860 settled at Duntroon, where she established her garden and plant house and painted frame landscapes and handsome arrangements of Australian flowers. Sophia Palmer came to NSW in 1800 aged 23 and married merchant Robert Campbell a year later. Wharf House was Sophia's beloved home and here she set out to sketch and paint the harbour and the barracks. Sophia's daughter-in-law was Marianne Collinson Close who was born in 1827 and lied at Morpeth. Marianne married Robert Campbell's son George and in 1860 settled in Duntroon, the family estate on the Canberra plains.
