William Pickering, London., 1847. First edition thus: Biographical Preface and Notes by S.W. Singer. Small octavo. pp cxxxvi, 257, [1] Corrigenda. At the end are 23 pages of Notes assistance with which Singer acknowledges was provided by ''a gentleman''. This was in fact Edward Fitzgerald. Originally published in 1689, thirty-five years after Selden's death, the book was compiled by his amanuensis Richard Milward. Period binding of full dark green morocco with raised bands, elaborate gilt decoration to spine and boards, inner dentelles gilt, all edges gilt. Two armorial bookplates: Alan & Dorothy Agnew; Strode family.One leaf becoming loose. Offsetting from frontispiece onto title-page. Some wear to joints. Very good. Attractive binding.
