Fort Leavenworth, Kansas: U. S. Cavalry Association, 1911. HB. Red cloth, gilt lettering on front cover, 8vo, 539 pp. including extensive index, patterned endpapers. Fourth completely revised edition, with numerous plates in the text. English translation from the German by First Lieutenant Walter Krueger. Balck was a member of the Prussian Imperial General Staff. This is Volume I, dealing with infantry tactics on the eve of World War I. He also wrote a volume on cavalry tactics. Krueger (1881-1967) rose to command of the U.S. Sixth Army in the South West Pacific during World War II. With the bookplate of Charles Rees Lloyd, Colonel 10th Field Artillery, 3rd Division, U. S. Army during World War I. Book shows considerable underlining of text, in pencil, hinges reinforced, binding solid. Covers show minor edge wear, top corner of text block and corners scuffed, spine sunned. Book condition Good+.
