Sobre este artículo

Leipzig: Hermann Mendelssohn, 1853 First edition. Original brown cloth, decoratively stamped in gilt and blind. . Quarto. Engraved title vignette of the Colorado River after Möllhausen. Seven chromolithographed plates, mounted on card and six tinted lithographed plates after Möllhausen, folding map after Henry Lange, ten wood-engravings in text. Introduction by Alexandeer von Humboldt. Front hinge neatly repaired. Occasional light foxing and toning, but a very good or better copy, bright and clean. Balduin Möllhsudrn (1825-1905), a Berlin-born artist, first visited the American frontier in 1847-1852. After returning to Germany he secured the recommendation of Alexander von Humboldt for the post of artist and topographer with Lt. A.W. Whipple's Pacific Railroad expedition, scouting possible transcontinental railroad routes at the 35th parallel. They traveled through central New Mexico and Arizona to the Colorado River, and across the Mojave Desert to California, reaching the coast at San Pedro. The lithographs are famous for their beauty. Möllhausen particularly devoted himself to the study of Native Americans and their antiquities.

Sobre Michael R. Thompson, Booksellers, ABAA/ILAB

Our office is located in Los Angeles on West Third Street, between the Beverly Center and Farmer's Market. Though we gave up an open shop after more than thirty years, we welcome serious customers and dealers. We are normally open from 10 to 6 Monday through Saturday. Since some of our less expensive books are located in a temperature-controlled storage area offsite, you may want to call ahead of time to insure that the book you want to see will be available. We feature a stock strong in literature, history, Western philosophy, women's studies, education, history of science and fine printing and artists' books. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. We have books from the 15th to the 20th century in all prices ranges. We do appraisals for income tax and insurance purposes. We purchase individual books and libraries. Proprietor: Carol Sandberg
