Tape strip marks on the front and back paste downs and on the edges of the inner flaps. Jacket not price clipped with some dust marks and light handling wear including a small tear and creases at the base of the spine.

Published by J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd., Phoenix House, 1966. 1st edition.. Hardback. Very Good/Very Good. Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper. Autobiography, reaching back into the inter-war period when the author was in the Burmese administration after years as a regimental officer in the 1914-1918 war. The Second World War found him in the National Defence Company of the Berkshire Regiment whence he moved into the non-technical hierarchy of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Top & tail of spine lightly shelf worn. Lower front corner lightly bumped. Text block browned and has a few foxspots. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly rubbed at corners and grubby.

Nice Copy. octavo. dust jacket xii + 212pp., b/w plates, maps, appendix, bibliog., index, Author was in the Burmese administration after years as a regimental officer in the 1914-18 war. In WW2 he served with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in France during the "Phoney War", and later in the Western Desert and in Western Europe after D-Day. The most important part of the author's service concerned his being required to inspect ordnance stores including many kinds of weapons, instruments & vehicles. In collaboration with the Military Police the author found an astonishing number of completely bogus repair & maintenance workshops in the rear areas entirely staffed by deserters from the desert army. Great read
