A colourfully illustrated first edition, first issue, of Beatrix Potter's charming tale of a tailor and his helper mice. The first edition, first issue, with the date to the title page, and Quinby Plate 1 endpapers, repeated four times. 'The Tailor of Gloucester' is a charming tale by Beatrix Potter, in which a tailor who's work on a waistcoat is finished by mice, who are grateful to the tailor for saving them from his cat.Beautifully illustrated in colour in Potter's typical style, with twenty-six colour plates.Collated, lacking the frontispiece. In the original publisher's paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart, with a little loss to the head and tail of the spine. Front joint is cracked. Light bumping to the extremities. A few minor marks to the boards, the front board onlay is lightly rubbed. Spine is lightly faded. Front hinge is weak and may fail, despite careful handling. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Front endpaper is detached but present. Internally, binding is tender in places. Pages are bright and clean. Ink inscription to the half-title. A little wear to the margin of pages 78 to 86. Lacking the frontispiece. Good Only
Sinopsis
The Tailor of Gloucester is a children's novel by Beatrix Potter that was first published in October 1903. The story tells of a group of mice helping a tailor finish his work in time for Christmas. It is traditionally read to children on Christmas Eve, just before bed time.
