First trade edition, first impression, of the author's "own favourite amongst my little books" (quoted in Linder, p. 121), containing 17 new illustrations that did not appear in the privately printed edition of the previous year. The same illustrations occur on the front pastedown and the front free endpaper, indicating first impression. The trade issue binding was in red or dark green paper-covered boards, without priority. Sextodecimo (137 x 101 mm). Attractively bound in recent red half morocco, retaining original red paper covers with white lettering and colour pictorial label on front, spine lettered in gilt and ruled in gilt and blind, floral device in compartments gilt, original pictorial endpapers at front. Frontispiece and 26 colour plates by the author. Ownership signature to front pastedown, the occasional minor blemish, an excellent copy. Linder, p. 423; Quinby 4.
Sinopsis
The Tailor of Gloucester is a children's novel by Beatrix Potter that was first published in October 1903. The story tells of a group of mice helping a tailor finish his work in time for Christmas. It is traditionally read to children on Christmas Eve, just before bed time.
