Obsessed with the inhuman monstrosities of Australia's convict system, William Astley (writing as 'Price Warung') took the outlines of history and coloured them with melodrama and farce to shock, delight, and sometimes disgust his many readers. These 17 stories reflect an attitude of the time: the convict was more sinned against than sinning. Edited by B. G. Andrews.
