There is a handwritten note on inside of front cover "Hartwell Library, Bound at Aylesbury 1850." and a bookplate of a prior owner. Tales of the Genii is a collection of stories by James K. Ridley based on those of the Arabian Nights. These were enhanced with illustrations and engraved plates drawn by Richard Westall. These Tales were first published in two volumes in 1764, they were issued under the pen name 'Sir Charles Morell', supposedly the British Ambassador at Bombay. Ridley's Tales were allegedly composed by an imam named Horam and translated from a Persian manuscript; they were in fact, products of Ridley's imagination.
