'A New Edition' circa 1845, 140 x 110 mm, 5½ x 4¼ inches, original publisher's red morocco grain cloth, blind stamped decorated borders, large gilt illustration to upper cover of mother hearing child read, gilt lettered and decorated spine, pale yellow endpapers, pages: (8), 240. Bright colour printed frontispiece of boys fighting outside school and colour illustrated extra title page with "Darton & Co" at foot, plus 23 text engravings. Couple of 10 mm (½") splits in cloth on upper hinge, neatly stuck, front inner paper hinge cracked, binding sound, neat old inscription on front endpaper, occasional fingermarks and very slight soiling. A very good copy. The Dartons page 467, No.H753(4); Gumuchian 3102. The copies listed in The Dartons and Gumuchian had a 16 page catalogue at rear, not present in our copy.
