Sobre este artículo

London: T. Fisher Unwin Ltd., 1898 First edition, first issue, in earliest binding with top edge gilt and untrimmed edges. One of 3000 copies. Publisher's dark green cloth, with spine stamped in gilt. Very good, with light rubbing to boards, mild bubbling to cloth on front board, light wear to spine ends and board corners, a few small nicks to cloth, light pencil marks to front endpapers, and a touch of toning to edges of pages. Overall, a pleasing copy of Conrad's first collection of short stories. Housed in a custom green slipcase. Wise 6. Tales of Unrest is a collection of five of Conrad's early short stories: "Karain: A Memory," "The Idiots," "An Outpost of Progress," "The Return," and "The Lagoon." All of the stories were previously published in magazines, except for "The Return," which makes its debut in this collection. "The Idiots" is Conrad's first ever published story, appearing in The Savoy in 1896. "The Outpost of Progress" is recognized as a harbinger to Conrad's masterpiece, Heart of Darkness (1899), telling the story of two ivory traders in the African Jungle. Conrad selected the story for Grand Magazine's "My Best Story and Why I Think So" series, commenting, "I aimed at a scrupulous unity of tone, and it seems to me that I have almost attained it there.". 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good.

Sinopsis

Of the five stories in this volume, The Lagoon, the last in order, is the earliest in date. It is the first short story I ever wrote and marks, in a manner of speaking, the end of my first phase, the Malayan phase with its special subject and its verbal suggestions. Conceived in the same mood which produced Almayer's Folly and An Outcast of the Islands, it is told in the same breath (with what was left of it, that is, after the end of An Outcast), seen with the same vision, rendered in the same method - if such a thing as method did exist then in my conscious relation to this new adventure of writing for print.
