As the story goes in China...a man named Tan dropped a square tile and it broke into seven pieces. He tried to put it back into a square, but made instead birds, boats, animals etc. He made tile copies for his friends and never did finish the original tile project. Before long notables like Lewis Carroll, Napoleon, John Quincy Adams and Edgar Allan Poe were hooked..
