A small book (4 3/4th" x 3 1/3rd") with three quarter leather binding and marbled paper. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There is some light rubbing to the spine ends, spine joints and corners of the book covers and some noticeable rubbing to the marbled paper covers. The text pages are mostly clean and bright. The endpapers have some spots of toning to the edges. "William Cowper (26 November 1731 – 25 April 1800) was an English poet and hymnwriter. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th-century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. Parts I and II complete in one Volume, 108 and 108 pages. Green half morocco over marbled boards. Five raised bands to the spine with gilt titles on red morocco label in the second and gilt flower and scroll decorations in the remaining compartments. Marbled page edges, pastedowns and endpapers. Condition very good, corners and edges rubbed, spine sunned, light marginal foxing to titles else the contents are very clean and crisp throughout. Part I and Part II each with engraved title page with vignettes drawn by Richard Westall R.A. and engraved by C. Rolls. Size 24mo, 5" x 3", 252 and 220 pages. Bound in full mid brown calf with gilt division bands to the spine with gilt titles on red morocco labels in the second and volume numbers on black morocco labels in the fourth compartments. Gilt Thistle motifs in the remaining compartments. Gilt hatched lines to the cover edges, marbled page edges. Condition very good, corners and edges rubbed, front hinges a little weak, internal condition near fine, the pages are very clean throughout with no foxing. Each volume contains an additional engraved title page, each with an engraving drawn by Corbould and engraved by W. Finden.
