Volumes I-VI are hardcover, uniformly bound in cloth and boards with the original front wrappers laid-down, manuscript label to each spine, bit shabby; Volumes VII+VIII are bound in 4 volumes as issued in original IFAO white stiff wrappers printed in red, bit worn at spine ends. Some leaves in the earlier hardcover volumes are loosening, some text leaves are edge frayed due to paper quality. Scholarly annotations in pencil in places. In good condition, with crisp plates throughout. ~ FIRST EDITION. A superb production comprising of over 800 finely printed plates. Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. Émile Gaston Chassinat (1868-1948). François Daumas (1915-1984). N-7
