Sobre este artículo

London: C. J. Clay and Sons. Good with no dust jacket. 1900. Second Edition. Hardcover. Ii, 49 pp. Half title. Folding plate at page 3. Tall slim octavo in original black cloth with gilt title and quote to the front cover. Covers have some general wear at the extremities. Interior black Victorian end papers show evidence of removed bookplate, cracking at gutters but holding. Half title has stamp of an Oxford rector. He has also made some very neat black ink comments/notes in a few places in the book. Otherwise clean and unmarked. This is the 2nd edition, after some errors were noted by some "Oxford friends" in the 1st edition. "According to tradition, Asklepios, the son of Apollo and Koronis, was born in the Hieron valley, in the Argolic peninsula; the place names still preserve the legend; the hamlet of Koroni commemorates his mother, the hill Titthion owes its name to his having been there suckled by a goat, while on the opposite hill, Kynortion, stood the temple of the Maleatean Apollo." Caton was not a classical scholar nor an archaeologist, but a renowned physician, who traveled to Greece to visit the temples numerous times. He became fascinated by them and delivered two lections the topic of the excavations carried out by European and American archaeologists who deciphered inscriptions and restored buildings such as the Temple of Asklepios at Epidauros. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 49 pages .
