Short-lived and apparently unrecorded publication from the Newark Rent Strike of 1970-74, also known as the "Stella Wright Strike," still the longest city-wide housing action of its kind (the strike stretched on for four years) and a galvanizing event for Newark's African-American and Puerto Rican communities. The strike culminated in extensive housing reform in inner city Newark and the closure of the notorious housing project Stella Wright Homes, whose residents had initiated the city-wide action. Contributors to this issue include Ruby Davis, Eugene davis, Maybelle Andrews, Elenor Alston, and others. Portraits of eight strike leaders are inset on front page. This newspaper, issued some time in 1973 as the strike was nearing its end, is not separately catalogued by any OCLC member institution; we have never encountered another copy and trace no others in commerce.
