Sobre este artículo

Glasgow: William Love, 1886. PRESENTATION COPY, 8vo, pp. viii, 146 + 8 plates. Contemporary green cloth. A little spotting. Boards lightly rubbed, soiled and ring-marked, a touch of rubbing to extremities. Presentation inscription to preserved initial (binder’s?) blank: ‘To Mr Donald with authors compliments March 10th, 1888 - Arch. McConnachie’, with clipped colour illustration of the title (from original binding?) pasted to verso, modern ink ownership signature to newer binder’s blank preceding, old bookplate of William Donald to pastedown. A pseudonymous anti-Catholic comic epistolary novel, which saw a series of reprints through the final quarter of the 19th century, all now fairly scarce. The earliest recorded edition in catalogues is the 1872 second edition, found by Worldcat at Glasgow, NLI and Queens University Belfast. That edition claims that the letters were first printed in the Paisley and Renfrewshire Gazette, which began publishing in 1864. This copy has been presented to a Mr Donald, whose bookplate is on the pastedown, by the author, who has seemingly identified himself at the foot of the page as one Archibald McConnachie.
