Berkeley:: Burton Weiss & James Musser,, 1999.. Limited Edition. A Fine, unread copy. This copy is number 31 of only 65 copies quarter-bound by John DeMerritt in cloth and marbled paper boards. In 1955 at the age of 21, the unknown writer Richard Brautigan had been living in Eugene, Oregon with the family of Edna Webster that was not his own; He was also preparing to leave Oregon for San Francisco to make his mark as a writer. In gratitude for Edna's generosity, he signed over to her the ownership rights to all of his heretofore unpublished fiction and poetry manuscripts. From 1955 until 1992, Edna Webster retained all of the Brautigan material that he gave her in a safe deposit box until she sold the archive to a rare bookseller in the Bay area. After placing the collection in the Bancroft Library, the bookseller arranged for the publication of the prose and poems that appears in this volume. The material is classic Brautigan and considered some of his best .

In Very Good Condition: leather is rubbed; spine repaired with japanese tissue; edges of first and last leaves darkened from glue used on fixed endpapers; some pages lightly browning; otherwise, clean and tight.

This is the first of three books of poetry that Crane both wrote and illustrated. The text is printed first with out illustrations and then in a "handwritten" font within the illustrations. In Good+ Condition: edges rubbed; ends of spine just starting to fray; cover lightly soiled; soiling, primarily in the margins; illustrations are clean and bright.

First edition, with publisher's review slip tipped-in at the front. x,69 pp. Slim octavo, black cloth, gilt lettering at spine. A near fine copy; faint foxing to endpapers, and few spots of marginal soiling, else clean and crisp. In a dust jacket which is heavily foxed, being more apparent on the thin strip of white at the fold-in of the upper panel and on the white lower panel, shows light edgewear, and has a closed tear at the lower fold-in. Lowell's second book, containing "The Quaker Garveyard in Nantucket," it was greeted with critical acclaimn.

Pages are untrimmed. In attractive modern slipcase covered in red and black paper; gilt-tooled title on slipcase spine: Battle of Waterloo. List of 274 subscribers, (pp. 107-111) with the number of copies each ordered (where more than one), includes Czar Alexander I of Russia; King William I of the Netherlands; King Frederick William III of Prussia; Commander-in-chief of British forces, Field Marshal Frederick, Duke of York and Albany; and the Duke of Wellington. Inscription dated 1833 on front fixed endpaper. Although this poem is frequently attributed to the Poet Laureate William Whitehead, he died in 1785, 30 years before the Battle of Waterloo. First Edition (first printing), in the first state binding of rainbow-patterned boards with a tanned and slightly chipped paper spine label and the publisher's yellow top edge stain. 8vo. 95pp. A presentation copy, fondly inscribed by the author to fellow poet and Newdigate Prize winner David Posner, dated May 1943 and with two inked lines of verse beneath and Posner's signature in pencil above. Some occasional light pencilled marginalia and some notes to the front free endpaper, probably in Julian Symons' hand but possibly also in Posner's. Laid-in is a folded two-sided handwritten letter from Ransom to Julian Symons concerning an article on Restoration comedy which was to appear in the Ransom-edited journal 'The Kenyon Review'.
