Sobre este artículo

Durham, NC Duke University Press Books, 1991. Hardcover First Edition USA (1991), so stated. Published on Great Britain in the same year. . First Edition USA (1991), so stated. Very Good+ to Near Fine in Very Good+ DJ: Both book and DJ show indications of very careful use. The Book shows a small bump to the bottom edge of the front panel, near the hinge; a tiny smudge to the bottom edge of the text block; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. Free of ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, or labels. A nearly-new copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing a couple of minor, unobtrusive flaws. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Very close to "As New". The DJ shows only a touch of wear to the outside edges and mild rubbing to the panels; unclipped. Close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (9.3 x 6.1 x 1.25 inches). xv, 405 pages. Language: English. Weight: 1 pound, 26 ounces. Published on Great Britain in the same year. . Hardback with DJ. Theory Now and Then contains the more overtly theoretical essays by J. Hillis Miller published between 1966 and 1989. These essays trace the trajectory of theory over the last thirty years in the United States: from the “Continental Shift” announced in the Yale Colloquium of 1965, through Miller’s assimilation of the work of the Geneva Critics, to the shift to that “deconstruction in America” in which Miller played a conspicuous role.Miller has been an important humanities and literature scholar specializing in Victorian and Modernist literature, with a keen interest in the ethics of reading and reading as a cultural act. From 1952 to 1972, Miller taught at Johns Hopkins University. During this time, Miller was heavily influenced by fellow Johns Hopkins professor and Belgian literary critic Georges Poulet and the Geneva School of literary criticism, which Miller characterized as "the consciousness of the consciousness of another, the transposition of the mental universe of an author into the interior space of the critic's mind."[3] In 1972, he joined the faculty at Yale University where he taught for fourteen years. At Yale, he worked alongside prominent literary critics Paul de Man and Geoffrey Hartman, where they were collectively known as the Yale School of deconstruction, in contention with prominent Yale influence theorist Harold Bloom. As a prominent American deconstructionist, Miller defines the movement as searching for "the thread in the text in question which will unravel it all,"[4] and cites that there are multiple layers to any text, both its clear surface and its deep countervailing subtext.
