simpkin marshall hamilton kent london 1895. first edition 446pp ills.[b/w] VG (burgundy cloth,sl.rubbed and stained,sl.bumps and wear to extrems.,owner's inscr.to ffep and verso,prelims.and content edges sl.foxed,some sl.foxing to contents) this is the true first edition - this from the author's preface Be it of what merit it may, the book should have been published more than two years ago by those to whom I had first entrusted it; however they have been got rid of, and the well-known firm of Simpkin, Marshall, and Co.are now my publishers - August, 1895 - I suspect that title pages may have been prepared by the dismissed publisher and were subsequently used by Simpkin for later editions despite them perhaps showing an earlier date
