Sobre este artículo

London: Richard Bentley, 1859. Cloth. Good. 7.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A very early edition of this novel by Anthony Trollope, 'The Three Clerks', set in the lower branches of the Civil Service. The Three Clerks features three friends, Harry Norman, Alaric Tudor, and Charley Tudor, who work in the Weights and Measures Office and the Internal Navigation Office. This story narrates the clerks experiences in romance, friendship, and corrupt government. Written by Anthony Trollope (1815-1882), a Victorian writer most famous for his series 'The Chronicles of Barsetshire', which made acute observations of Victorian life. He wrote on political, social, gender, and other topical themes. The Three Clerks is considered to be part autobiographical, and was largely inspired by Trollope's own experiences working as a junior clerk in the General Post Office. A very early edition of this work, published just a year after the first edition. Containing a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown: 'James S. Brass'. In the original red cloth binding. Rebacked, with the original cloth laid down to the boards and spine. Externally, some shelf wear to the boards and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Darkening to the spine. Containing a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages contain the odd spot and handling mark, but are otherwise generally bright and clean. Good

Sinopsis

Set in the 1850s, The Three Clerks exposes and probes the relationships between three clerks and the three sisters who became their wives. At the same time it satirizes the Civil Service examinations and financial corruption in dealings on the stock market.
