NICOL, Mary E.

Three Hundred & Sixty-Six Dinners

New York and London : G P Putnam's Sons, 1892. First edition.  Printed by The Knickerbocker Press, New York.

Octavo (155x110mm) quarter bound red cloth, white cloth boards, stamped gilt titles and decoration of a boar's head to upper board, top edges gilt, deckle fore-edge, heavy cream paper, horizontal chain lines [4],vii,[1],186,[6]pp.  Owner name "Maude Fortescue 57 Fifth Avenue New York" in ink to front paste down; notes of the 'good' bills of fare in ink to the endpapers; boards edges faintly worn, lightly soiled

There is a suggested menu for each day of the year including the 29th February.  Each menu begins with a quote, is seasonal and usually includes a soup, several meat or game courses with accompanying vegetables and a dessert; not simple meals.

Maude Fortescue was the daughter of Robert B Roosevelt the American politician, sportsman, author and diplomat, and uncle of President Theodore Roosevelt.

A lovely copy.
