Bound in full embossed calf leather with five raised spine bands and a red leather title label stamped in gilt on the spine. Frontis plate of Ray and three additional copper en gravings of coins of the ancient Greeks and Romans, fossils, and bone artifacts. 8vo size, 456pp. A Very Good copy. The leather has small ru b spots to the corners and spine tips. There is a 2" crack at the fro nt seam near the head of the spine. The upper rear corner is rubbed a nd rounded. Small bookplate of Varnum Hull on the front endpaper. Mode rate foxing and toning to the pages. The interior is tight and otherwi se unmarked. Ray was a Parson-Naturalist who published several works on Geology, Zoology, Plant species and Theology. This book, published shortly after his death, has numerous additions published for the firs t time to three of his more important earlier works. .
