Used; Like New/Used; Like New. Three signed pencil drawings by the American Modernist painter, depicting a dancing figure, likely Isadora Duncan, who was his favorite subject. Each drawing signed at the foot by Walkowitz. Toned edges, a few short creases and tears. Each 10.5 x 7.75 inches (27 x 17.5 cm).
Walkowitz first met Duncan, who had captured the attention of the avant-garde with her innovative dance, at the studio of Auguste Rodin in 1906. Walkowitz was captivated by Duncan's spontaneous and free language of movement, and over time made thousands of drawings of her dancing form, even after her death in 1927. Walkowitz said later of Duncan: "...she was a Muse. She had no laws. She didn't dance according to the rules. She created. Her body was music..."

EXCEPTIONALLY RARE PORTFOLIO of Walkowitz's drawings in tribute to Isadora Duncan, accompanied by Max Eastman's text (here in Spanish translation). Copy #55 of only 120 numbered copies issued, signed by the publishers. This oversized folio is housed in the publisher's flexible black imitation leather portfolio, front cover stamped in gilt. Laid in loose is the 8-page, accordion fold illustrated announcement of the opening of an exhibit celebrating the publication of this work (Arvil Galerie, Mexico City, 1986), titled 'Album Isadora'. Walkowitz met Duncan in Auguste Rodin's studio, and was the create over 5,000 drawings of her.B/w Illustrations.
