He was a 16 year old German expatriate living by his wits and guile on the streets of Belgium. His father had brought him to Belgium to escape Nazi persecution o f the Jews, but Hitler's expanding grip of terror consumed Belgium, and Louis' father was sent to a work camp, leaving Louis behind.
