Good/No jacket. 605 pages with index, illustrated with tissue protected frontispiece and black and white plates. Number 988 of the first edition, signed by the author on the title page above his printed name. The foreword reveals a romantic view of the history of the state of Virginia. Covers many of the important citizens of Virginia through the years 1585 to 1929. Ex-Library with a donation label on front fixed end paper with donor marked out. Dark green cloth binidng with gilt titles on front cover and spine, gilt top edge. Some foxing of cover, light scuffs, edge wear, particularly at spine, corners and spine ends a bit bumped, library numbers on spine, spine gilt a bit faded at bottom, library stamps on title page, library numbers on dedication page, interior pages bright and clean; plates are particularly handsome in this edition, one or two light pencil markings, back hinge showing cloth, binding otherwise tight.
