London: Trigraph, 1985. NrF/VG+. First Edition Thus, in dustwrapper not price clipped. Profusely illustrated with reproductions of the original photographs, line-drawings and map of Cyprus. Updated with text corrections and revised layout. In 1878 Cyprus, a neglected and unimportant province of the Ottoman Empire, suddenly sprung into international prominence when the Sultan was persuaded to hand it over to be administered in the name of of Queen Victoria in exchange for British promises him to protect him against his Russian enemies. A leading British photographer landing there two months after the arrival of the occupying troops travelled through it from end to end and soon had in print a book in which 60 photographs of the new possession were accompanied by an explanatory text. John Thomson, who was born in Edinborough in 1837, had close links with the pioneers of photography. Some light spotting to edges of pages, some light wear to lower edge of d/w, and light wear to edges of d/w; else a near… Leer más

Descripción:
Routledge, 1990. 8vo size trade paperback; 390 pages including index From back: "This is a unique study, continuing the work of Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger, and using the techniques of phenomenology against the prevailing nihilism of our culture. It expands our understanding of the human potential for spiritual self-realization by interpreting it as the developing of a bodily-felt awareness informing our gestures and movements. The author argues that a psychological focus on our experiences of well-being and pathology as embodied beings contribute significantly to a historically relevant critique of idealogy. It also provides an essential touchstone in experience for a fruitful individual and collective response to the dangers of nihilism." Edgewear, moderate wear to covers with sunned spine; marginalia, underlining and very light highlighting on least 58 pages prior to page 107; two previously folded page corners, some stray ink marks on outside pages.
