Top edge gilt. Wonderful block print bookplate. Spine ruled in 6 compartments. Gilt decoration. Frontispiece. 59 engraved plates. Two folding maps which have been laid down on fine linen. A fine clean tight copy. Czech, p164. It details the author's journey from Mombassa through what was to become British East Africa and Kenya. The expedition was sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society, of which Thomson was a fellow. He was the first European to cross the hostile Masai land to the Victoria Nyanza, confirming Krapf's sighting of Mount Kenya. Uncommon in the UK first and a nice copy in a pretty binding. 1885
