First edition. An account of the author's trip to Yellowstone in June of 1885 in the company of his wife and daughter. Part narrative and part guide-book, it includes such chapters as "The Yellowstone Park and How to Reach It," "The Railroad Journey," "Our Outfit and Departure," "An Elk Hunt," "The Cattle Ranges," "The Former Inhabitants of the Park," and so on. There are numerous chapters devoted to the salient features of the Park, such as the Mammoth Hot Springs, the Middle Falls of the Gardner, and the Great Canon of the Yellowstone. A detailed and very appealing folding map is included in a pocket at the back.
CONDITION: Good, lightly worn at extremities, inner hinge cracked and slightly sprung, but covers still firmly attached, lacking front free end paper, two 1" tears in frontis.; map very good, recently reinforced with Japanese tissue and good for the long haul.
