The story of The Denver Post - founded in 1895 wth a $12,000 investment by a shady lottery operator and an ex-bartender.The Denver Post was incredible. Yet after following Hosokawa's account of events and characters - what extraordinary people they were! - one comes to believe that the paper was not only possible but downright necessary for the milieu it served so boisterously, to the great profit of its ever-contentious owners. Coloradans have heard much of what Tamman and Bonfils did for (and to) their state during its adolescence; it is good to see recognition now accorded to Palmer Hoyt's equally colorful regime during Denver's more recent years of explosive growth. 447 pp. including index.
