Donald Shields, former President of Cal State Fullerton and Southern Methodist University.. Octavo, 454pp. Blue cloth, title in gilt on spine and replicated gilt signature on cover. Stated "first edition" on copyright page, with full number line beginning at 1. Some dust along top edge of text block, light toning to edge of blue cloth, solid text block. In the publisher's first edition dust jacket, $12.95 retail price, with "0679" at bottom of front flap, light toning to spine, short closed tear along bottom edge of front panel, a very good example. Book is signed on the front free endpaper: "To President Donald Shields, with admiration and appreciation. Warmest best regards. Gerald R. Ford." L. Donald Shields (b. 1936) served as the President of California State University (Fullerton) from 1971-1980, and Southern Methodist University from 1980-1986. In 1974, he was appointed to the National Science Board by President Ford, serving until 1980.
