Sobre este artículo

The is a first edition from the classics series published by International Collectors Library in 1970.

The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, is a comic novel, considered to be one of the finest novels in the English language. Written in 1749 by the English writer Henry Fielding (1707-1754), it is constructed around a romance plot. Squire Allworthy suspects that the infant he adopts is the illegitimate child of his servant. As Tom grows up, he falls in love with the unattainable virtuous neighbor, Sophia. Numerous obstacles have to be overcome before he can win her hand. In the course of this, various sets of characters pursue each other from one part of the country to another, giving Fielding an opportunity to paint an incomparably vivid picture of England in the mid-18th century. It has been adapted many times, most notably for the Oscar-winning 1963 film starting Albert Finney and Susannah York.

This is a lovely book. It is brown leatherette. It has a gilt design on the cover and spine and a bound-in silk bookmark. 632 pages.

The original owner put a bookplate on the inside front cover and then crossed out his/her name. You can either put a label over that or steam off the bookplate. Also, the book was improperly stored and started to dry out. There is a surface crack on the cover, just at the middle of the spine. And at the top of the spine, a little piece chipped off (see photo).

Other than that, it's in absolutely pristine condition. It is unopened and unread.
