Warszawa: Iskry, 1956. First Polish Edition. Slim octavo (25cm.); publisher's blue pictorial paper-covered boards; 77pp.; illus. throughout. Rubbing along extremities, corners a bit bumped, textblock unifromly toned, else Very Good and sound. Translation of Fast's novel for young readers, in which the hero, a mixed-race, working class boy named Tony, discovers a door in his native Brooklyn which leads him into 17th-century Dutch New York. First issued independently by Fast's own company the Blue Heron Publishing Company in 1952, at the height of McCarthyism when Fast was unable to find a mainstream publisher due to his ties with the Communist Party.
